7. SoCal Winter

Socal Winter
Originally uploaded by simple.joys

The warm weather in January has been quite ridiculous.  I was hoping to wear the cute sweaters and scarves that I bought during my Christmas shopping spree, but instead I must pull out my summer dresses and sandals.  But no complaints... I am lucky for the opportunity to absorb the warmth of the sun and surround myself with the palm trees lining Wilshire Blvd.

6. Bedtime

Originally uploaded by simple.joys

I am so embarassed because these past few photos don't even reflect my abilities.  I am just trying to not fail miserably at "attempt #2".  Anyways, I was trying to put Lily to bed, but she was not cooperating, and all I wanted to do was sleep.  So I took a quick photo just to fulfill the day's photo requirement.  The photo isn't great, but the subject sure is!

It is only the first week of Project 365 and I am not yet motivated.  With my outlook inbox full of unread emails, a pile of unopened mail, and a long list of phone messages I must return- it's hard to focus.  Before I got bogged down with more catching up, I took a quick photo of my Banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) from the new lunch truck "Phamish" that parks in front of my building. Unfortunately, the photo doesn't capture the essence of its yumminess.

Another New Year Resolution is to make sure that I take a break from sitting at my desk all day at work.  Even if it is just taking a quick stroll outside.  And with the summer weather that we are blessed to have in the middle of January- I better show my gratitude by taking time to appreciate it.

3. LA Zoo

LA Zoo
Originally uploaded by simple.joys

After 2 weeks of well deserved vacation from work, we decided to have one last adventure before we returned back to the grind.  We thought Lily might enjoy the zoo since she loves animals and making animal noises.  However the only animals that she showed any interest in were the ducks.  This photo is a special "Lily and Daddy" moment that I captured while they were watching the zebras.

2. New crayons

Lily is getting to the age where she can entertain herself with crayons and a coloring book. But, I must keep a close eye so that the crayons don't end up in her mouth or coloring the furniture and walls.

1. Sew What?

Originally uploaded by simple.joys

Here we go again...
Its a New Year, and besides taking more photos, another resolution is to finish the many sewing projects that I have started.  I have unfinished throw pillow covers, pajama pants, and a baby quilt.  I vow to complete these before another year ends.  And I vow to complete the Project 365 project.  It is the only way that I will grow and get better.

Project 365: Attempt #2

Attempt #1 was a huge FAIL.  Hopefully, this time around is much more successful.  My daughter is now 18 months old and growing before my eyes, and I want to be sure that I capture every special moment.  Lets go 2010!

During our playdate with the Matsuda, Stoops, and Rangel cuties, I caught Lily standing with the assistance of a "stove". A few seconds after this, however, she toppled over, bringing the play house with her.

My camera battery died before I was able to take any decent photos today, thus I must settle for this one. A photo I captured while sitting at a red light, that then turned green- and of course, I was honked at because heaven forbid, one is delayed by 1 second. People on the westside are so horn-happy!

Most of my files are saved electronically, but every once in a while, I must refer to 1 of the 4 outdated file cabinets in my office to search for a file that was created before the age of computers. Whether handwritten or typed with a typewriter, it makes me even more grateful for my virtual file folders that I can peruse from the comfort of my chair.

She also received her first "red envelope" from her grandparents in Hong Kong. As Lily celebrates her first Chinese New Year, we only wish her the best: good fortune, good health and happiness.

We have been spoiled lately in Southern California with perfect 80 degree weather, so I guess it was about time that we experienced some winter weather. I HATE rain. I take that back, I like the rain only when I am cozy on my couch in sweats, reading a good book with a cup of hot chocolate. But, I have to go to work instead.

I witnessed history by watching the inauguration at work on my computer screen with a co-worker. We sat in my office anxiously awaiting to hear President Obama recite the oath. I then watched the recording at home with my family that evening. With tears in my eyes and my heart full of pride, I am so excited for the future of our country. The future of my daughter. Our country needs this change, needs a renewed sense of hope and optimism.
God Bless you Mr. President, God Bless these United States of America, and God Bless the world.

But that is okay, because I did capture Billy's excited smile as he and Sandy shared their good news in such a creative way. In the middle of dinner, he unbottuned his shirt, and displayed his new "tattoo". We are so excited for them and this miracle of life!
